Cleaning Tips for Thanksgiving Dinner

We won’t lie, hosting for Thanksgiving dinner can seem like a daunting task! Hours of prep not only including the endless amount of food, but cleaning the house for your guests as well. We’ve generated some tips and tricks below to help you feel more at ease when it’s time to clean up for Thanksgiving guests!

1. Focus your attention on where the guests will be!

If your home has multiple bedrooms or floors, it can seem like an overwhelming job to clean the entire house before Thanksgiving day. One of our biggest tips is to try to just focus on the main areas of the house where guests will be joining you. No guest will see the pile of clothes in your bedroom that hasn’t been folded in a week! Worry about the kitchen, the dining room, the living room and a downstairs bathroom.

2. Trouble focusing to get the job done?

An easy trick is to set a timer for 20-30 minutes and just clean up as much as you can during those minutes. Do this a few times a week, or a few times a day. When work is broken up into smaller segments it seems more achievable.

3. Focus on sweeping, dusting and vacuuming.

If you have to think about getting a mop bucket going, it’s more than likely you will procrastinate this task even longer than you mean too. Focus just on sweeping, dusting and vacuuming, and your guests will be happy as clams! Everyone is there for your company and the food anyways.

4. Make room for company coats and shoes!

This is a simple task you can give to anyone in the family, even a younger family member. Wherever in your home people hang up their coats or jackets, just take down your coats or shoes and leave the coat rack open for the guests.

5. Start Thanksgiving dinner with an empty dishwasher.

Last but not least, let’s keep this last tip simple, you will thank yourself later for this one! At the end of the night you do not want to deal with a full dishwasher to unload. You want to be able to relax and enjoy your guests’ company while they are still there for the time being! Unload the dishwasher the night before, so when plates are dirty on the day of, you can just throw them in and spend more time with your guests!

Best Qualified Clean wishes you a safe and Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours. If you need an extra deep clean after the holidays, make sure to give us a call!
